One week down and the rehearsals for Plastic Figurines are swiftly under way. It’s safe to say that Director Adam Quayle, and actors Jamie Samuel and Vanessa Schofield, have left no stone unturned. Each line of dialogue, every stage direction and every idea has been examined, dissected and appreciated.

The first day of rehearsals was a delightful assembly of the creative team. Playwright Ella Carmen Greenhill (along with her lovely fiancé and new-born baby Alfie), set designer Katie Scott, lighting designer Richard Owen and of course Adam, Jamie and Vanessa. And me. We kicked off Monday morning with the first read-through where the actors and began to explore how to bring the characters to life off the page.

Adam has started the rehearsal process off with some vigorous table work in advance of getting the play up onto its feet next week. I am hugely looking forward to seeing these discoveries formulate through the rest of the process.

I have to say, I am in awe of Adam, Jamie and Vanessa. They are all so good at what they do and together are a real force to be reckoned with. Already, Jamie and Vanessa are throwing themselves into their characters and really getting to the heart of Rose and Mikey’s objectives and behaviours and this is masterfully facilitated by Adams passion and flare for what he does.

Box of Tricks is a grounded, charming and brilliant theatre company who I have had the pleasure of working with over the summer. Combining Box of Trick’s vision and with the talent of the creative team, I can already confirm that Plastic Figurines is not to be missed.
